Kids create a timeline showing important events in the spread of democratic ideals.

Estimated Time: 30–45 minutes

Materials Needed: Reference materials, writing materials, timeline templates

  1. If needed, review how a timeline works, with time evenly divided and labeled.
  2. Instruct kids to make a timeline of important events in the spread of democratic ideals and democracy. They should include the signing of the Magna Carta, the writing of the Declaration of Independence, the writing of the U.S. Constitution, and Indian Independence. They should also include the years three other countries became democracies.
