In Episode 6, Carmen travels to Australia, where she learns about the fascinating creatures of the Outback. Kids research these animals and create trading cards with their findings.

Activity Instructions

Kids create Australian animal trading cards.

Estimated Time: 45 minutes

Materials Needed: Blank index cards, drawing supplies, reference materials about Australian animals

1. Explain that on her travels, Carmen learns that the Australian Outback is a huge wilderness that covers 80% of the country and is home to many amazing creatures. As a class, create a list of Australian animals. Your list may include: dingo, kangaroo, crocodile, koala, wombat, wallaby, platypus, echidna, cassowary, bandicoot, brolga, dugong, kookaburra, and emu.
2. Allow your kids to select an Australian animal to make a trading card for. Kids should draw a picture of the animal on the front of a trading card. On the back, kids should list statistics and facts about the animal including its habitat, food, predators, and interesting adaptations.
3. If time allows, kids can make more than one trading card.
